Criminal Defense Attorney Jason Volet

Jason A. Volet is certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a criminal trial lawyer and practices criminal and municipal defense in New Jersey and New York. With years of experience operating as both a criminal prosecutor and defense attorney, Mr. Volet understands both sides of the law and can determine which techniques can be utilized most effectively to help his clients prove their innocence.

Unlike many other attorneys throughout the state, Mr. Volet focuses exclusively on the practice of criminal law. This exclusive focus allows him to refine his defense strategies and understand the practical aspects of the law in their finest detail. Mr. Volet is a 1995 graduate of Rutgers College, where he received his B.A. in political science, and a 1998 graduate of the Hofstra University School of Law. He began his legal career as a clerk for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office before moving up to Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor in the Family Division prosecuting juvenile offenders. Eventually, Mr. Volet was promoted to a trial team where he prosecuted adult offenders, handling cases from plea through trial before a jury.

This experience gave him in-depth access to the type of strategic thinking employed by criminal prosecutors, an invaluable knowledge base from which effective defense tactics for those accused of criminal acts can be developed.

Mr. Volet now engages solely in the practice of criminal and municipal defense. He currently serves as Assistant Public Defender for the Borough of Allenhurst and a conflict public defender for Ocean Township, Manalapan Township, and Freehold Township.

Results Matter
Third Degree Forgery and Theft by Deception
Client with no record was charged with third degree Forgery and Theft by Deception for passing a bad check. Numerous documents negating any intent were provided to the Prosecutor’s Office. After the documents were provided and the client testified at Grand Jury, case was no billed and all charges were dropped.
Third Degree Official
Misconduct
Client was charged with third degree Official Misconduct for theft. Client was facing a mandatory state prison sentence of three (3) to five (5) years with two (2) years of parole ineligibility. After an exhaustive investigation by Volet, client was sentenced to probation conditioned on 364 days in the county jail.
Third Degree Possession of CDS and Possession with the Intent to Distribute
Client was charged with third degree possession of CDS and the intent to distribute that CDS, facing a possibility of three (3) to five (5) years in state prison. After a review of the case and determination of issues with the State’s case, client plead guilty to a disorderly persons offense and sentenced to one (1) year probation.
